Lamy Village Master Plan, Lamy, New Mexico
The SFS Landholdings, a land-holding company of the Santa Fe Southern railroad owns the heart of Lamy Village a small village that is centered around the Depot and the two daily stops that Amtrak makes on the way east and west. Santa Fe Southern operates an excursion train to Santa Fe’s Railyard. GBA designed a village to maximize solar orientation, minimize view disruption, and leave significant open space in the heart of the Village for a small community of artisans to live and work. GBA’s strong sense of public service and high tolerance for bureaucratic process has assisted SFS Landholdings in their efforts. There is now one artisan, and one café, and one museum. Both SFS and the Village consider this a success.
